A basic way to judge exposure settings when no light meter is available.

Set your shutter speed to the reciprocal of the film speed. If you are using ISO 100 film, the shutter speed would be 1/100 sec, if you are using ISO 400 film, the shutter speed would be 1/400 sec (or the closest setting to that).

Then set the aperture accoring to the list below:
in full sun (distinct shadows) F16
in light overcast (soft-edged shadows) F11
in overcast (shadows barely visible) F8
in heavy overcast (no shadows) F5.6
in shade/sunset F4
